I’m off to a great start on my new year’s resolution! For the first time in 10 years, I'd like to be comfortable in a bikini this summer. Last December, I was maybe around a size 6-8. Now I’m between a size 1-4. After we went camping for a week in August, I felt so great from all the hearty food and hikes, it was surprisingly easy to continue. You know it was an amazing vacation if you come back looking better, and keep losing weight months afterward.
Rather than dieting, I’ve slowly changed my daily lifestyle. I started eating breakfast every day, switched to whole milk instead of 2%, and use only unsalted butter. One of my tricks is to fill up on a plethora of fruits and vegetables before eating anything fattening (learned in 10th grade biology that it's important to eat a variety of different colors to get all the necessary vitamins). However, I noticed the biggest difference when I cut out most preservatives, and bought more organic; except for produce with a thick flesh. I am convinced that everything organic tastes better.-- Organic olive oil smells like freshly pressed olives. Heated, the aroma conjures pictures of fully ripe olives dangling from a wispy tree in Italy. If you can stand the thickness of whole milk, organic is heavenly creamy. Most important -- I feel great, and have more energy. Just imagine what the results could be if I took a nutrition class.
My secret? Short-term goals, healthy thinking, lots of flavor, and a good splurge every now and then. Stress from the economy has probably been a factor as well. My current goal is smaller meals throughout the day, exercising smarter, and reducing the number of migraines each month. Guess I’ll have to change my 2012 resolution to stressing less...
